A big part of milling a perfect yarn is to know the staple length and set the spinning machines accordingly. With an inconsistent staple length, a one-size-fits-all setting for the spin frame can be a challenge. As a result, some batches of Metamorphic may look a little different from others. You might notice the ply angle appearing a bit tighter or looser from one batch to another, or you might find some slubs in the yarn, giving it a rustic look. To utilize every ounce of wool we buy, even the “waste” fiber, we partner with our neighbor mill, Skagit Woolen Works. They have the means (aka the big, big machines) to blend fiber more efficiently than we do, so they can thoroughly re-comb the waste fiber.
